I would describe myself as a self-proclaimed Afrophile – that is someone who is fascinated by African cultures and societies. I have expertise in the areas of poverty, climate change, violent conflict and economic development in East and Central Africa. I have travelled, carried out research, volunteered and worked in Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi and Zambia. Although my primary interest lies in Africa, I have an interest in environmental issues and foreign affairs more generally, particularly in the Middle East. In my free time, I enjoy playing guitar, reading, learning and writing about the topics closest to my heart: science, environmental issues, conflict, peacekeeping, Africa and (occasionally) music.
